Vigilance stepped up in Burhanpur villages

IN VIEW of further positive samples of bird flu being confirmed in Jalgaon district of neighbouring Maharashtra, vigilance has been further stepped up in bordering villages of Burhanpur district that fall in 10 kms radius from the affected areas.

IN VIEW of further positive samples of bird flu being confirmed in Jalgaon district of neighbouring Maharashtra, vigilance has been further stepped up in bordering villages of Burhanpur district that fall in 10 kms radius from the affected areas.

As per directives of the State Government culling is being undertaken at Biroda and Gadhtaal villages of Burhanpur district under full safety measures. At Biroda, 532 birds were culled and Rs 21,000 were paid as compensation to poultry farmers similarly at Gadhtaal, 473 poultry birds were culled and compensation of Rs 17,000 paid.

District Collector Suraj Damor undertook in-depth review of the culling and surveillance work in the bordering villages. She also distributed the compensation amount at some places.

The Collector has directed local veterinary department to undertake disinfecting and cleanliness operations at houses and poultry farming spots in the villages.

Poultry Project Officer and in-charge of culling Dr S M Sheikh said Formin-formalin and Sodim Hypocholride was being used for disinfecting purposes. Similarly, droppings have been totally cleaned and whitewashing undertaken in backyard poultry farming spots. The materials used for poultry farming were burnt up.

On April 10, a health check up camp would be held for the residents of the affected villages.
