Heads of 15 villages on Wednesday alleged that BJP MP Varun Gandhi has threatened and asked them to gather support a candidate backed by him in the Barsathi assembly constituency, police said.

The heads of 15 villages, including Maurawa, Nauwa Nagla, Meeranpur, Kanch, Bharaudi and Jatpura, met Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar and complained that Gandhi had declared Swami Pravaktanand as his candidate from Barsathi constituency.

The village heads alleged that the BJP MP is threatening them to ensure support for the candidate in the election, police said.

Taking the note of the complaint, SP has ordered the Circle Officer Shafiq Ahmad to probe the allegations.

Though Varun was not available for comments, his supporters claimed that it was just an act to defame him.
