VIPs add to hospital chaos

Tired of mass protests and continuous flow of VIPs, doctors at Safdarjung Hospital have appealed to them to keep away from the facility as it is causing inconvenience to patients, including the gangrape victim.

In their appeal, doctors have said, "This is no time for personal visits. Concerned people should stay at home and pray for her recovery."

Doctors said senior ministers and politicians have been frequenting the hospital with their security guards since Monday to visit the 23-year-old, who is battling for life. This is also causing inconvenience to other patients, they added.

Hospital sources, requesting anonymity, said some politicians had even insisted on meeting the gangrape victim — much against the doctors' advice.

"Most senior politicians are just creating chaos here. Nobody, including the woman's family — except her mother — is being allowed to meet her, as there are high chances of her contracting infection," said a doctor, on condition of anonymity.

"She is extremely fragile. We don't want her to develop any further complication because of external infection. We are trying our best to save her," he added.

"One of the ministers who came on Tuesday insisted on going inside. The minister said without even meeting the patient, how would she brief the media," said another doctor, requesting anonymity.

"Not only can their presence prove fatal for the patient (who has been kept in a sterile environment), but they are divulging too much information about her to the public which violates her basic right to privacy," he said.
