It’s not often that a filmmaker stands up for his actor who’s been charged with unprofessionalism. But Vipul Shah insists that Aishwarya Bachchan is being targeted. Buzz is that she’s been delaying his movie, Action Replay, and Shah denies it completely. "It really annoying.
We are used to gossip but this seems like a personal attack on Ash,” he smarts, pointing out that fractions are trying create a friction between him and his star. “Action Replay has been shot in sync sound so no dubbing is required. So where is the question of her refusing to dub for it?” he adds. Shah informs that only one 12-day schedule remains during which a couple of scenes and three songs will be shot.
But didn’t Aishwarya refuse to shoot a Pritam composition? “Not even Amitabh Bachchan or Akshay Kumar were present at music sittings. When these reports started, Ash was shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Raavan in Kerala,” he argues. He also refutes allegations of her reporting late on the sets leading to a flaming row. “She is always ready on time. I share a good rapport with Amitji, Ash and Abhishek and have had no problems with her at all. Anyone who knows me will vouch for the fact that I don’t shout at even my spot boy,” Shah clarifies.
The Action Replay producer-director knows that Raavan is priority for Aishwarya and was always going to be completed before his film. “Unfortunately, Mr Ratnam fell ill and the shooting was delayed. Ash and Akshay have gone out of their way to adjust their dates,” says Shah. He will be going abroad for a recce for the final spell. His first copy will be ready in April. “Depending on the next IPL, I’ll fix my release date.”
