Vir Sanhvi gets Lokmanya Tilak National Award

Vir Sanghvi, Editorial Director of Hindustan Times has been selected for the first Lokmanya Tilak National Award 2009 for excellence in journalism.

Vir Sanghvi, Editorial Director of Hindustan Times has been selected for the first Lokmanya Tilak National Award 2009 for excellence in journalism.

Announcing this in Pune on on Friday, Dr Deepak Tilak, Trustee-Editor of Kesari said that the award which carries a citation with a sum of Rs one lakh will be given to Sanghvi on January 4, 2009 which also marks the 128th anniversary of the paper, launched by the Lokmanya Tilak to oppose the British rule and galvanise the freedom struggle.

Deepak, who is great grandson of the Lokmanya Tilak said the newspaper was committed to carrying on the tradition of fearless writing established by Kesari in 1881 and the award had been instituted to uphold the spirit of journalism.
