The city will get its first virtual driving simulator before April-end. The Rs 14-lakh simulator is lying unused at Mumbai Central RTO for nearly a month, due to repair work of storm water drains, undertaken by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Brihanmumbai Storm Water Drainage (BRIMSTOWAD) work is in progress just outside the RTO. Even vehicles trying to reach the office have to struggle their way through the repair work in progress.

On Monday, in a meeting between the state Transport department and Western India Automobile Association, the agencies decided to approach BMC and ask them to complete work soon. The work is blocking entrance of the newly built room for keeping virtual simulator.

We have placed this virtual simulator and also renovated a separate air-conditioned room for it, said WIAA, executive chairman, Nitin Dossa.

Milind Sawant, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Zone-I) said he is not aware of the issue and needs to check. The virtual simulator was initially to be started for public use from January during the Road Safety Week.

But it got postponed as there wasn’t a separate room available for them.

Once the simulators are installed, it will become mandatory for all to go through the orientation test, after paying a nominal fee of Rs 50.
