When is the best time to visit Gangtok and Lachung? Also, do we get buses to travel from Gangtok to Lachung? If there aren’t any frequent buses, please let me know the duration taken to reach these places.
Karthik

The best time to visit Lachung is from March end to June. It is the peak season and you will be able to see orchids in the Valley of Flowers. Booking will have to be done in advance. The other season to visit in is September till December. You will not see flowers during this season but the valley will be covered with snow in December. I am a regular visitor to Gangtok, and would advise you to avoid the rainy season, ie June end to September first week. There are no buses from Gangtok to Lachung, only private operators ply. You have to book in advance and procure inner-line permit. Gangtok to Lachung is 6.5 hours journey by road. The tourist office is on the M G Road. You can stay in Hotel Tibet. Carry warm clothes, gloves, medicines, two photos per person and ID proof.

When is the best time to visit Kashmir? Any suggestions on the itinerary for six to seven days?
Manoj

The best time to visit Kashmir is during the months of March to October. During this period, the weather condition in Kashmir is at its best. While there, do visit:
-The Mughal Gardens with terraced lawns, cascading fountains, paint-box-bright flowerbeds with the panorama of the Dal in front of them.
-Nishat Bagh, situated on the banks of the Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan Mountains as its backdrop.
-Hazratbal Mosque, the white mosque that is breathtakingly beautiful.
-Ziarati Hazrati Youza Asouph in the Khanyar area is about 150 m NW of Dastgir Saheb mosque and shrine. This tomb, also known as Roza Bal, is believed by some to be the tomb of Jesus (part of the larger theory that he survived the crucifixion and made his way to Kashmir where he lived until at least the age of 100).
-Shankaracharya Mandir. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is situated on a hilltop. It can be reached by a car or taxi.
-Also, don’t miss Pari Mahal, which offers breathtaking views of the city.
