Vitamin victim turns critical

THE CONDITION of Pratibha deteriorated on Sunday morning and she had to be given a ventilator support. Ankit and Akash are stable. These kids are in the paediatric department at King George’s Medical University since Friday night.
All these children and several other kids fell seriously ill after being reportedly administered a dose of Vitamin-A and mid-day meal at a primary school in Chitwapur locality.

One of the children, Mansi died after she became critically ill. The incident had made hundreds of local residents angry who took to streets on Saturday afternoon.

The condition of Pratibha became critical early in the morning and she was given platelet transfusion. Deputy chief medical officer Dr UK Gupta has been deputed to look after the treatment and all requirements regarding medicine for the children who fell ill in the episode.

“Doctors are trying their best to stabilise the condition of the kids and every attempt is being made to get them out of any life threat,” said Dr Gupta.
The test reports from the laboratory of the samples of medicine and vomit could arrive on Monday. The situation would then be clear about what exactly caused problem of the kids.
A high-level meeting of the health officials is scheduled on Monday where they would discuss about the defaulter in the entire episode. The health department is officially maintaining that the sickness was not caused with the use of medicine but it was mid-day meal that caused the problem.
