'Harry Potter' baddie Lord Voldemort has been voted the best villain in children's books. According to contactmusic.com, Voldemort beat the likes of Sauron from the Lord of the Rings, in a recent poll conducted by BigBadRead.
Harry Potter author J K Rowling said, "I am thrilled and honoured beyond words that Lord Voldemort has been voted best villain in the BigBadRead poll. I am not sure how he would react to knowing that he had won a Muggles' (non-wizards) unpopularity poll.
"A mixture of pleasure that you recognised his power and menace, coupled with fury at your nerve at mentioning his real name, I think. His author, however, is absolutely delighted."
Besides Voldemort andSauron the list of the villains includes Mrs Coulterfrom His Dark Materials sequence, Lex Luthor from the Superman series and the Joker from the Batman graphic novels.
