Ruling National Conference's senior leader and state finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather on Sunday said the defeated political opportunists have resorted to lies and falsehood for hoodwinking public opinion against landmark achievements of the coalition government.
He cautioned people against their mechanisations "so that their nefarious designs are thwarted completely".
"The people should reject political opportunists who are in the habit of exploiting the sentiments of innocent people on the basis of region and religion to satiate their vested interests," said Rather while speaking at Srinagar's Tulsi Bagh area.
He hoped that the politically mature people of the state "will never allow divisive forces to succeed in their game plan and build their castles on the graveyards of innocent people".
"Secular fabric is the hallmark of the state's rich traditions and ethos, which has to be preserved and upheld at all costs," he added.
Rather said last five years' report card of the present government is before the people. "Progress achieved during the last five years cannot be undermined. Political opponents are basically unnerved with the growing popularity graph of the coalition government and its development agenda and so they are desperate to create misunderstanding among the masses by resorting to lies and policy of deceit," he said.
