Don't let the army chief's age take ages to settle, do it now
This refers to Varghese K George and Rahul Singh's article At ease, soldier (January 17). The stand-off between Army Chief General VK Singh and the Government of India on the issue of his date of birth has taken an ugly turn with the senior officer approaching the Supreme Court. The controversy will create an environment of distrust and could impact the morale of the armed forces. Can India afford such a situation? In the interest of the nation, the government must end this controversy and allow the General to retire gracefully, minus any legal hassle.

Will Adelaide be any different?
This refers to the editorial Win-win situation (The Pundit, January 17). While we are debating Sachin Tendulkar's 100th tonne and the failure of the Indian cricket team in Australia, we must also give the Australian team its due. The Australian players were superb on the field and outplayed India in every department. The media and cricket analysts are equally responsible for this failure of the Indian team because they always keep on talking about the stunning Indian batting line-up without actually looking at possible chinks in the armour. Now, we can only hope that the Indian team will show some improvement in Adelaide and manage to salvage some pride.
