Mulayam must first set UP right before aspiring to become PM
This refers to Ajoy Bose’s article He is losing the plot (October 4). There’s nothing wrong in Mulayam Singh Yadav nursing prime ministerial ambitions. But given the current political realities, it is unlikely that this dream will mat-erialise at least in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. To even think of becoming the prime minister, Uttar Pradesh must elect 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha in 2014. But, the support for the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh is dwindling due to the failures of the Akhilesh Yadav government on several fronts. If this trend continues, the party may not get enough seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha election to make Mulayam Singh Yadav even a kingmaker. He must remember that a bird in hand is worth two in the bush and thus he must concentrate on Uttar Pradesh.

Stop playing divisive politics
With reference to the report Operation Bluestar leader stabbed (October 3), India’s enemies are trying to destabilise the country once again. The Akali Dal leaders should stop playing dirty politics and instead focus on the problems dogging Punjab. Over the years, agricultural income has been decreasing and this has affected the morale of the people badly. Mathew Oommen, Pune

Arrest this dangerous trend
This is with reference to the editorial In a dangerous zone again (Our Take, October 2). It is distressing to read that the fear of Kashmiri militants has led to the resignation of about 100 sarpanches in the Valley. The Omar Abdullah government should ensure security for the local government representatives so that they can continue to function without any hindrance. NR Ramachandran, Ooty
