Sachin Tendulkar’s humility puts him in a superior league
With reference to the report There will never be another you (October 11), Sachin Tendulkar, who announced his retirement from Test cricket on Thursday after his 200th game, has the raised the bar so high that other cricketers would find it hard to ever accomplish what he has achieved.
However, his real achievement is beyond records and numbers. It is his humility and the fact that he has never let his success go to his head that puts him a cut above the rest. His ability to remain non-controversial unlike his cricketing peers and juniors has made him an inspiration for everyone.

Narendra Modi is reaching out through his oratory skills
With reference to Vir Sanghvi’s article Modi’s filling the vacuum (October 10), the writer has aptly summed up the reasons behind the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s meteoric political rise. It is the UPA government’s failure on all fronts that has paved the way for Modi. The decade-long rule of the UPA has seen scams of enormous proportions and there are clear signs that the people of the country are disenchanted with the UPA.
While Modi is making the best use of all communication tools to reach out to the people, the Congress leaders are totally inaccessible. Modi’s claims of quality governance and development in Gujarat are of little significance to the people who are impressed with his high visibility and oratory skills.

Veerappa Moily should now try and curb natural gas flaring
With reference to the report To save fuel, Moily takes metro to work (October 10), Union oil minister Veerappa Moily’s Metro ride is not mere tokenism as he’s a man of impeccable honesty and integrity. But at the same time, I think that it will not be feasible for a Cabinet minister to walk down to the metro station from his residence every week.
Besides, Moily should also take note of the flaring (wastage) of natural gas at many oil and gas production sites because it is not only a tremendous economic waste but it also adds to greenhouse emissions. Today, there are many technologies that can save natural gas from being flared.
