Shinde’s ‘Hindu terrorism’ remarks are divisive and insensitive
Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s sweeping remark linking the BJP and its ideological mentor, the RSS, with “Hindu terrorism” reeks of divisive politics (Shinde’s Hindu terror remark upsets BJP, January 21). Terrorism cannot be associated with any colour or religion and casting aspersions on a particular religion will divide the country on communal lines. At a time when Shinde should be concentrating on the recent skirmishes with Pakistan along the Line of Control, he is making comments without any evidence. To make matters worse, 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed is seeking to exploit Shinde’s remarks and this will further give Pakistan an opportunity to deny its involvement in terror activities in India. It is high time Shinde retracted his anti-national remark.

Shinde must stop this politics of appeasement and concentrate how he can make our country safe for everyone. It is tragic that in our country being anti-Hindu is considered being secular.

Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir’s remarks are encouraging and show that unlike our political class, he’s not out of touch with ground realities (Wish I could join protests, says CJI, January 22). Had our political class shown this kind of empathy, the police crackdown on protesters demanding better safety for women at India Gate would not have been taken place. I hope his comment will help the political class gain an insight into the problems of middle-class India.
