Cyrus Mistry must commit himself to corporate transparency
This refers to the editorial New guard takes over (Our Take, December 28). Leading a conglomerate which has diversified interests will be a challenge for Cyrus Mistry, who recently took over the chairmanship of the Tata group from Ratan Tata. However, it was his selection by a five-member committee that has set a new benchmark of transparent succession in India's corporate sector. One hopes that, as chairman of India's largest business group, Mistry will commit himself to the transparency that has taken a hit since the Niira Radia episode.

Give Delhi its police force
This refers to the editorial Stuck in the Raj era (December 28). The spat between Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and the capital's police on the recording of the gang rape victim's statement must make the Centre take steps to restore public trust in law and order. It's time Delhi Police is brought under the control of the city government, which stays in touch with Delhi's ground realities, unlike the home minister who operates from a distance.

Kurien deserves a Bharat Ratna
With reference to Khushwant Singh's article Feeding the hungry world (With Malice Towards One and All, December 24), both sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and father of the white revolution Verghese Kurien changed the way the world looked at India. It's time Kurien's contribution, which lifted millions of people out of poverty, is recognised with a Bharat Ratna.
