Northeast exodus: Don't leave any stone unturned to nab the culprits
This refers to Sanjoy Hazarika's article No sense of belonging (August 20). It is appalling that the government failed to reassure Northeastern people of their safety, leading to their exodus from Bangalore and other parts of the country. The government must not leave any stone unturned to nab those, whether in Pakistan or India, who tried to create a fear psychosis among northeasterners in the country. This nefarious attempt to drive a wedge among people should not go unchecked or unpunished.

Let's not forget our chirpy times
This refers to Shivani Singh's article Let's coax the chirrup back (Metro Matters, August 20). Of all the fond childhood memories, the ones associated with house sparrows are perhaps the best. For many of us, their chirping was nature's alarm to wake us up but unfortunately now their decline is an alarming indication of environmental degradation. It's time we collectively and individually did something to save the dwindling population of house sparrows. We must remember that we owe our children the small joys that these birds once brought to our lives.

He'll remain Very Very Special
This refers to the report Last glance: Goodbye, VVS (August 19). After Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid called it quits, VVS Laxman's sudden retirement from international cricket is a big loss for Team India and the game. However, allegations that he was a victim of ill-treatment at the hands of the BCCI and the selection committee must be looked into so that stalwarts like him are not sacrificed at the altar of internal differences.
