The UPA must get off the starting block on corruption and inflation
With reference to the report Will act decisively against corruption, check inflation: PM (October 31) the PM has been expressing concern over corruption and inflation for quite sometime now. But so far his government hasn't taken any concrete step. The UPA's performance over the last seven years has been dismal. The common man has no reason to trust the PM. The government must get its act together now or be prepared to face the consequences in the 2014 general elections.

Digging himself into a hole
This refers to the report Anna ungrateful to RSS: Digvijaya (October 31). Sen-ior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has been consistently firing salvos against Team Anna. Though Singh has managed to create a rift in Team Anna, his remarks are doing his own image more harm than good. This is putting the Congress' reputation at stake too. The party must ask Singh to act resp-onsibly and issue statements after consulting his seniors in the party.

Making children work won't work
With reference to Harsh Mander's article Let's labour over it (Democracy Wall, October 28), child labour is one of the main reasons for the high levels of poverty in India and both the government and people share the blame for this. A complete ban on child workers is the only way to ensure that every child receives at least primary education.

This is not small potatoes
Shashi Tharoor's call to declare January 12 as national no-meat day is admirable (Tharoor's latest - why not a no-meat day? October 28). A higher consumption of meat products will lead to the killing of more animals. This will disturb the food cycle, which could lead to many more environmental problems.
