Nitish may get what he wants because of electoral compulsions
With reference to NK Singh’s article A new rallying point (March 21), it may not be financially viable — or prudent — for the Union government to put Bihar in the special state category even though chief minister Nitish Kumar desperately wants it. Having said that, I believe that the recent rally in New Delhi was more a show of strength by the JD(U) than anything else. Bihar has no significant resource constraint; the main problem is administrative. Yet, Kumar may still push the Centre to give in to his demands because he could be a key player in the 2014 general elections and the UPA government would like to keep him happy at this point of time.

It all adds up for the rich
This refers to the report Govt stable, reforms on track (March 21). I was surprised to read that finance minister P Chidambaram still thinks that there is room for more reforms when statistics show that there is a rise in unemployment, poverty and hunger across the country. The truth is that reforms are only for big businessmen and foreign capital. It is the rich who reap maximum benefits. Instead of these dubious reforms, people need food, employment, education, health, justice and equal rights for women.

The CBI is not fooling anyone here
With reference to the report Govt red-faced after CBI ‘revenge’ raid on Stalin (March 22), there is no doubt that the CBI raid on MK Stalin was linked to DMK’s withdrawal of support to the UPA a day earlier. Why is the UPA government trying to fool us?
