It is time to stop the taxpayers' money going down the drain
With reference to the editorial No more time to squander (Our Take, May 2), it's appalling that the ongoing budget session is likely to witness a complete washout in the event of a logjam over various issues, including the CBI's admission in the Supreme Court that a version of its report on the coal allocation investigation, was shared with the law minister, officials in the coal ministry and the PMO. It's a mockery of our parliamentary system that since the beginning of the 15th Lok Sabha, 20% of all Bills passed by the Lok Sabha were discussed for less than five minutes. The government and the Opposition are equally responsible for this pathetic state of affairs and it's time they stopped the taxpayers' money from going down the drain. While the Opposition must stop being obdurate in holding up the proceedings of Parliament, the government must come clean on the allegations levelled against it and fix accountability.

Put food on everyone's plate
With reference to Jean Dreze's article No bread, lots of beer (May 1), it's ironical that in a country where millions of people go to sleep hungry, millions of tonnes of wheat are left to rot in the open due to lack of storage facilities. Therefore, the National Food Security Bill, which aims to give the right to food to around 67% of India's 1.2 billion people, should be passed at the earliest. The government must expedite the process to get the Bill passed and the Opposition must do its bit to ensure that there's food on everybody's plate.

He is guilty as charged
It's a travesty of justice that a Delhi court has cleared Congress leader Sajjan Kumar of all charges relating to his alleged role in the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 (Anger over Sajjan verdict holds up Metro, road traffic, May 2). The CBI report has enough material to establish his involvement - from instigating the mob to making highly provocative speeches.
