In Bengal, man and his protector find themselves on opposite sides
Indrajit Hazra in Kolkata kills Bengal (April 29) rightly points out that the Trinamool Congress has betrayed the people of West Bengal, not just its capital. Though Mamata Banerjee seemed to have gained prominence in Singur and Nandigram, these and other areas are still lagging far behind Kolkata. It also doesn’t matter when the Saradha group came into existence, the fact that people have been forced to commit suicide because of the financial misdoing should be ample reason for the buck to stop with the state’s chief minister.

Hazra aptly sheds light on how the people of West Bengal feel cheated by both, the predominance of the city and by an unchanging culture and ethic. When the electorate voted out the CPI(M) and gave power to the Trinamool Congress, there was much cause for hope. Surprisingly, it took just the one stroke of a chit-fund scam to shatter all that optimism.

Don’t take the dragon lightly
This refers to the report No brotherly love lost? (April 29). The recent incursion by China into Indian territory is a serious matter, but the government does not appear to think so. We must remember that only a few months back, Chinese soldiers were spotted in PoK. China is also involved in water disputes with almost all its riparian neighbours. And now that very China, which claims Arunachal Pradesh as it own, seems to be denying its transgression. New Delhi must wake up to this looming security threat.
