THE STATE Samajwadi Party today flayed former Prime Minister and Jan Morcha leader Vishwanath Pratap Singh who, it said, had no political stature and was busy attacking leaders of other parties by writing books.

State Samajwadi Party president Ram Sharan Das, talking to mediapersons, said VP Singh’s move to form Jan Morcha was part of the conspiracy that had been hatched to help the Congress. VP Singh had betrayed the Hindus and Muslims alike, said Das, adding that the former prime minister had promised a temple to Hindus in Ayodhya even as he had assured Muslims that no temple would come up.

Das said Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav deserved full credit for saving the Babri mosque in 1990. Neither VP Singh nor any other leader helped Yadav on the issue, said Das adding, that Singh Did not stop BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani’s yatra under the BJP’s pressure. Had the Advani’s yatra been stopped in Gujarat it would not have created communal frenzy in the country, he said.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the the Apprentice Council, Dr CP Rai, on Thursday alleged that former Prime Minister VP Singh had misled the people over the Bofors gun purchase issue.

Riding on the Bofors wave, Singh became Prime Minister, but he failed to reveal the name of the people who had got kickbacks in the gun deal before the investigation agencies.

Talking to mediapersons, Rai said Singh was making false allegations against Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on the demolition of the Babri mosque at Ayodhya. But Mulayam lost his government on the ‘masjid’ issue.
