Focussing on Jammu region of the state for the upcoming polls on December 20, People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said her party has emerged not only an option but the first priority of the people of Kashmir Valley apart from Doda, Reasi and Poonch districts in Jammu.
"We have not only given a vision to the people, but our performance in a short span of three years has also inspired them to vote for us," she said.
Asserting that government formation was not a priority of her party, Mufti said she wants all the regions and communities in the state to be a part of the change.
"Participation of Jammu region in the new government formation is necessary as only inclusive mandate could bring a meaningful change we all have aspired for," the PDP leader said while addressing a public meeting in support of her party candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency Amreek Singh Reen.
"People are participating in this election to write a new script in the state's political history and the trend shows that they are enthusiastically voting for change," the PDP president said, adding that the issues of Kashmir and Jammu region are almost identical.
Mufti said this election, people have voted against a system and against a party which has plunged the state into chaos and confusion, referring to the opponent National Conference.
It is heartening, she said, that braving all odds people are participating in the electoral process in respectable numbers. She said people wanted to vote out the "anarchist" NC-Congress coalition regime and also to keep "divisive forces" at bay, in an apparent attack at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The PDP has emerged as the "only credible" political force in the state to take up head-on the emerging challenges posed by different forces in the state, Mufti said.
She said the PDP will develop Jammu city so as to bring the city of temples on the heritage tourism map.
