Anup Jain, General Manager, Brand Marketing, Whirlpool India Limited reveals five ways by which you can make an impression on your boss
1 Keep your boss abreast with the latest. Keep him on top of things and you will start to see him back off on follow-ups and reviews. It is the surest way to build trust and confidence in your boss about yourself.
2 Support ideas he is passionate about. Give passion and get passion for your own ideas. Learn to sense what is close to your boss' heart. And invest time on it. Genuinely, of course.
3 Think ahead of him. Smart and ambitious individuals always plan the next stage – the next idea to drive the business. Bosses love those who can show what tomorrow can be.
This is the surest way to let your boss have the confidence that you will be able to last long enough to drive the business.
4 Communicate with clarity. I have seen average ideas get lauded because they were articulated well. Bosses are short on time. Prepare your elevator speech. Support it with facts and get the buy-in minutes. Prepare what you have to say well. Perceptions get built over time.
5 Let him know how you feel. Being a boss can sometimes be a lonely oneway street. Messages are sent out but seldom received back. Set aside time and give pin-pointed constructive feedback to your boss that could help him and you succeed better at your endeavours. And trust me, most bosses appreciate it.
