The BX580 is a gorgeous and slim 3D Blu-ray player. The vertical blue lights at the side of the Blu-ray 3D logo give the player a cool look. As far as features go, the BX580 is loaded. You can watch videos on YouTube or view images on Picasa. The added DLNA function also allows you to stream content wirelessly from your PC.
The 3D player has component/composite, HDMI 1.4, optical, coaxial and an Ethernet port for connecting to websites like YouTube and Picasa. The USB port lets you play videos and view photos over a USB or external hard drive. It’s surprising that there’s no analogue multichannel audio. And yes, maybe LG could’ve thrown in another HDMI port too.
When you play an audio CD, the player will display the album’s artwork and more if it is connected to the Internet. You can also rip MP3 files from CDs directly onto a flash drive. The remote looks nice and fits neatly into the hand. When it comes to watching non-3D movies, this player really shines. Everything seems fluid, and the images are sharp and crisp. The colours are reproduced brilliantly with great skin tones and shadow details. Using the BX580 is also a breeze. The menus are neatly laid out and quite intuitive.
This player is priced competitively at Rs. 16,990. Some features like MKV playback and external hard drive support make it a winner. But we’re irked that multichannel analogue audio is absent. While we haven’t tested it for 3D playback yet, it is a great player to have, and will give you value for money.
