A 22 year-old watchman was found dead in mysterious circumstances at a housing society in Ghatkopar on Sunday.

According to the Ghatkopar police, the victim, Premkumar Dilbahadur Parihar, worked as a watchman at Mangal Bhavan co-operative society in Jeevdaya lane.

“Early Sunday morning, Prabhu Dayal Gadgale, a driver, who was on his way to fetch the keys to his employer’s car, spotted Parihar lying unconscious in a pool of blood a few metres from the building’s entrance gate,” said a police official.

Parihar was rushed to Rajawadi hospital. However, he was declared brought dead.

The police have registered a murder case. However, owing to the external injuries, the police are not ruling out the possibility of an accidental death, a police source said.

“A pool of crusted blood encircled Parihar’s head and his limbs were in an awkward angle. Surprisingly, his brother and nephew were sleeping a few yards away, completely oblivious to the fact that his body was a few metres away. I immediately notified the residents of the building who awakened Parihar’s relatives and called the police,” said Gadgale.

The Ghatkopar police have registered a case of murder but they are also investigating whether Parihar died after a fall. “Parihar died of a severe head injury and it appears that the crack in his skull was caused by a pressure that is usually a result of a fall. One of the other residents also claims to have heard a thud at around 2 am on Sunday. He also sustained multiple fractures on his arms and legs,” said Inspector Uttam Kolekar of Ghatkopar police station.

Parihar and his nephew had begun working as security guards in the building two years ago. His wife had been staying back in Nepal. His brother had come down to Mumbai a fortnight ago.
