The four Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activists arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old from Andheri, had threatened and shooed away the watchman of the garden, initial investigations have revealed.
The watchman, C Yadav, told the police that the accused reached the garden in a car on July 19. “They said that if I don’t leave this place at once, I would be killed. They also warned me not to tell this to anyone,” Yadav told the police on Saturday night.
Yadav had earlier told the police that he had gone out for some work when the incident occurred. The police had arrested the accused on July 24 based on the complaint lodged by the victim, a domestic worker from Lokbharti slum, Andheri (East).
The victim had alleged that she was on her way from work with her 16-year-old sister when the accused came in an Indica, dragged her into car and raped her in the watchman’s cabin in the nearby garden.
The police said they are questioning the people living near the garden. “We hope to find an eyewitness who would have seen the accused on that night,” said a senior police officer said.
The police said the accused while being questioned, said they are being implicated. “They later confessed to their crime,” said senior inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi. The police are waiting for the medical report of the victim and the accused.
