Delhi Police on Wednesday fired water cannons at Aam Aadmi Party workers protesting outside finance minister Arun Jaitley’s residence in the Capital, demanding his resignation over alleged financial irregularities in the city’s cricket association.
Several protestors -- who climbed on police barricades and shouted slogans led by AAP legislator Somnath Bharti -- were detained.
“Arun Jaitley should not be allowed to handle the nation’s finance till his role in DDCA scams gets cleared.A Union minister with serious charges of corruption is being blatantly shielded by India’s PM. What a shame!,” the official Twitter handle of the Aam Aadmi Party tweeted minutes before the protestors were detained.

The protestors were seen holding placards and shouting slogans demanding Jaitley’s resignation.
Earlier in the week, Jaitley had filed a criminal as well as civil defamation complaint against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders for allegedly defaming him in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) controversy.

Jaitley’s action comes in the backdrop of attacks on him by Kejriwal and other AAP leaders over alleged irregularities and financial bungling in the DDCA, which the senior BJP leader headed for about 13 years till 2013.
