The wife of a CPI(M) supporter in Midnapore was allegedly gang raped and murdered by Trinamool Congress men on Sunday night. Her body was spotted hanging from the ceiling at her home in the morning at Sunia village. According to the allegation, she was paraded naked around the village before being killed.
Soon after her body was spotted, angry CPI(M) supporters went in a procession to the Contai police station and blocked the local Digha-Mecheda road.
"The woman was killed after being gang raped by the Trinamool Congress men and they hanged her after killing", Chakradhar Meikap, a former CPI(M) minister said.
However, Trinamool Congress rubbished the allegation stating : "The CPI(M) is making baseless allegation on us", said Dibyendu Adhikari, local MLA from Trinamool Congress.
The husband of the victim had to flee home soon after the Lok Sabha results were announced and had been staying away since then. The victim worked as a an Integrated Child Development Scheme worker and stayed alone.
Trinamool Congress men had allegedly demanded huge amount as 'fine' from the lady and when she expressed her inability the accused pounced on her. The local CPI(M) leadership alleged that she was killed after the attackers gang raped her.
The CPI(M) leadership of the area also had claimed that the housewife paraded naked in the village in the night itself after she refused to give R 12 lakhs as demanded by the murderers. On Monday morning, the dead body of the victim was found hanging from ceiling of her house.
The husband has lodged a police complaint against 12 persons, including two prominent Trinamool Congress leaders of the area.
"The body was found hanging from the ceiling of her house. We have found no injury marks in her body. We have sent the body for post mortem examination and only after getting the report we can say that whether she had been raped and murdered or she actually committed suicide. But, after receiving a complaint we have started an investigation", Sukesh kumar Jain, the district police chief in East Midnapore, told HT.
The brother-in-law of the victim said "when she told them that she cannot give them the money, they forcefully took her out from the house and forced her to parade naked in the village."
