When everyone is criticising Varun Gandhi for his controversial statements at an election rally, the Shiv Sena has come out in full support of the young BJP leader. Varun has “spoken the truth” and “does not need to apologise” for his remarks, said an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamna.

“There is nothing wrong in what he has said. He is one Gandhi we like. He seems to be ditto like his father and Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi who was known as a controversial leader and we welcome him for this.”

The editorial added that this Gandhi was different and the BJP should support him. “Varun has spoken his heart out. Should he be branded a criminal and hanged for letting out his feelings?

“And whom should Varun apologise to, BJP or the Muslims of this country? At least we do not feel the need for it.”

Comparing his statements to Mahatma Gandhi’s, the editorial said: “That Gandhi said if one slaps you, you should offer him your other cheek and the Gandhi of this age is saying that if one slaps you, the hands will be cut off. We are in love with this Gandhi.”
