Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, on whose call the people in Kashmir have taken to streets, said any incident of stone-pelting at pilgrims was “highly condemnable”.

Speaking to HT from his house, Geelani said: “The attack...is against the tenets of Islam, and I would try my best to prevent it." He said the protests would subside only if the government revokes the order and restores 100 acres of land to the forest department. “Nothing short of that would satisfy us.”
