Three days after two women were molested by a mob near JW Marriott in Juhu, they are still recovering from the shock.

When HT spoke to one of the victim’s husband, Himesh Shah (name changed), now in Delhi with his newly-wed wife Vrushali (name changed) and their two cousins, he said they were not aware of the media coverage till they saw the photographs in HT.

Shah, a businessman in California, had come down to India for his wedding in Valsad, Gujarat, on December 28. The couple came to Mumbai with their cousins to usher in the New Year. They had booked two rooms in Royal Garden Hotel.

"We were shocked. After the horrible experience we just wanted to get back to our hotel," Shah told HT. "I told the police that we need help to reach the hotel. We did not tell them about the incident."

Vrushali told HT over the phone: “I don’t want to talk about the case. We are going to Delhi and don’t want to be disturbed. We are trying to put the incident behind us.” Asked about the police failure to register the offence on the night of the incident, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) KL Prasad said: "Only one of the four was in a condition to speak. He insisted on returning to the hotel and told us not to disturb them. We called them several times but they have refused to file a complaint.”

They left for Valsad on Tuesday and went to Delhi on Thursday.
