‘We have enough water, distribution is a problem’

HUDA Administrator Nitin K Yadav defends his department.

Don’t you think that 50 MGD supply from HUDA channels is not enough for a population of 25 lakh?

We are supplying sufficient water from our Basai water treatment plant for the entire population. This plant gets about 85-90 quesec water supply from the Gurgaon canal.

Why is a major portion of the city still devoid of water supply from HUDA?

Though we have enough water to supply, we have problems in the distribution network that we are going to strengthen. We have problems related to pumping of water from the boosting stations resulting in low pressure in some areas.

The HUDA water treatment plant lacks power backup and supply is affected when power supply fails. Any solution?

We are going to spend Rs 1 crore to connect the plant with a dedicated feeder line from the Daulatabad power station. Neither supply will fail afterwards.

Most hi-rise buildings depend on groundwater. Why?

They are being converted from tubewell to piped mode which they had been avoiding. We’ll make it mandatory for them to switch to piped supply once our distribution network strengthens.
