I think Mumbai is just a microcosm of the entire country, which is in a state of denial. Repeatedly we are turning the other cheek to be slapped over and over again by terrorising fanatics.
All this with a self assuring stance of "look I am so brave that I am normal". This is helping us to get nowhere. I think too much tolerance has taken this country down in history and will take it down once more.
What Mumbai has showed is complacence and not resilience. Whom are we trying to fool by burying our head in the fallacy of bravado? The fact is that we are powerless and helpless. The intelligence, police and government are doing their bit. But what are the people doing?
In Mumbai they are providing breeding grounds for sheltering insurgency and not a single educated man in this country has the guts to start a people’s revolution. Mumbaikars are so busy making money that half the time they don’t know who is their neighbour.
In such a fast paced competitive world they don’t have time to even shut shop for a day in mourning. If they had actually shown their strength after March 1993 then July 2006 wouldn’t have happened. One incident is enough to make people strong.
One 9/11 has made New York impregnable. But innumerable incidents have yet to make the people of this country start a revolution and demand a solution.
