india Updated: Apr 20, 2009 00:45 IST

Major Sangeeta Tomar (40), YFE

Health and education figure prominently on Tomar’s list and so does equal rights for all. “If you take care of the health and educational needs of the people, they will prosper and not require any kind of concessions or reservations,” said Tomar, who belongs to the first batch of commissioned women army officers. “We spend crores on education but most government schools are in pitiable condition. We have to put in place a system of accountability,” she said. Tomar, who will face seasoned politicians like Vijay Goel of the BJP and Ajay Maken of the Congress, said: “We want to give people an alternative.”
