THE WEATHER does a U-turn and 40 degree hot 3 pm breezes into dusty dusk, clouds and showers within hours. All happened like magic.

Streaks of lightning 4 pm onwards, drizzling around 5 pm and by 6 pm the entire city experienced rain. For a moment it seemed the weather was in a fast-forward mode!

Good news is temperature for the next two days will remain around 37 degree or low, said the weatherman.

Things went off so swiftly that the weatherman could detect the switch only about noon.

Though Lucknow, as it was feared, did not get any squall or storm—but the rain turned out to be good and widespread. Weatherman said: “We have received reports that some parts of city have even received hail.”

The change in weather happened due to multiple favourable factors working with each other. “There appeared a western disturbance in the form of upper air cyclonic circulation over the State. It had excellent moisture feed from the Arabian sea. An upper air westerly trough was in such a good condition that it acted as catalyst for almost entire State. The systems have already covered western and central parts of the State and by night would cover eastern parts too completely,” said Weatherman.

Most parts of the State had squall, rain, thundershowers and hail. “Conditions will certainly remain like this for next 24 hours. This will bring down maximum temperature in entire state and also keep it down for the next two to three days,” he said.

Power woes

rain brings power crisis. Sector 11, 13 and Sapna colony under Rajajipuram plunged into  darkness after at least two feeders broke down in the evening. It may take about 24 hours to restore the power supply.  Khadra, Daliganj and the surrounding localities also went without electricity for hours. A few areas under the Residency Division, including the Balrampur hospital, New Hyderabad colony, Aishbagh, Rakabganj and localities like Aliganj, Vikas Nagar, Gomti Nagar, Ashok Marg and Gokhle Marg also faced power
