West Bengal: Boat ambulances to aid people living in remote areas

The Mamata Banerjee administration is going to launch boat ambulances with GPS tracking and other emergency facilities for patients living in remote islands of Malda and South 24 Parganas. The expenses of the novel service will be borne by the National Health Mission.

The service that will be available between 6am and 6pm in two blocks of the two districts initially, will later be extended to round-the-clock.

Health department sources told HT, “There will be arrangement of medicines and some other necessary items for the treatment of the seriously ill patients. The Malda district administration and health department has already got the order to start the service.” A health department employee will be supervise the boat ambulance.
