The CPI has said the forthcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal will be a keen contest and expressed the hope that the Left Front will retain power in the state.

"The West Bengal Assembly elections will be a keen and bitter contest," CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said.

Trinamool Congress poses a formidable challenge, but despite some "mistakes", the Left Front Government will be able to retain power, said Bardhan, whose party is part of the ruling alliance in West Bengal.

The veteran Communist accused Mamata Banerjee's party of having links with the Maoists.

The pre-poll violence has exposed the nexus between TC and the Maoists. Recent raids on a guest house found armed Maoists at TC premises, the 85-year-old CPI leader said.
