THE ENTIRE staff of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) has been upbeat since Monday.
Why? Is it because the State Government has announced appointment of new director in place of Dr Kartar Singh? No. It’s because the officials didn’t want to see the second tenure of Singh for many reasons.
Ask medical, para-medical and non-medical fraternities of the institute and they would say the same but not as openly as one might think they would.
Meanwhile, the new Director Prof AK Mahapatra, HoD Neurosurgery, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) would take about a month’s time to join here as he has certain formalities and works at hand at AIIMS to complete, quoted the sources.
Dr Kartar Singh’s three- year term that ended just recently has been the most controversial and problematic term for the institute. Never ever so many complains about a director had gone to the State government. And in some matters the State Government had to intervene to tackle situations.
Almost every section of staff—resident doctors, nurses, safai workers went on multiple strikes during the tenure. While doctors alleged ignoring of interests of patients and medical facilities at the institute.
