Last year’s trends are already passé. This year will be about the natural look, predict beauty and make-up experts. Here’s a look at what 2010 holds in store.
Simmi Ghai of hair and beauty studio Xpressions says, “Sun-kissed makeup is the trend of the day. Whiteness of the skin is a total no-no. The warmed skin look that has an international, hydrated and moisturised look is very appealing." She adds that the base should be translucent, with tinted tinted foundations and light powder adding some glow.
Dinaz Jehani, brand manager, Shiseido, agrees. “Matte makeup with luminous eyes and face colour will be the 2010 make up trend,” she says. Mineralised make up will get more popular and bases with good SPF and skin oils will also be in demand.
Eye of the matter
According to make-up artist Samantha Kochhar, mascara and metallic eye shadows will be ‘in’ this year. “Metallic colours are in fashion in 2010. Fake eye lashes are out and to create enhanced lashes, mascara will be a lot in use,” she says. Minakshi Dutt adds, “Give the eyes bold colours like parrot green, deep purple, cobalt blue and fuchsia. Liners are bold and going upwards in a wing. Eyebrows too will be defined in an arch with strong pencils in deep browns.”
A similar look will dominate lipstick shades, too. “Nine-to-five lipsticks are the trend for the season,” says Ghai. “Matte and sheer lipsticks make a comeback in 2010. To complete the look, a touch of the luminising liquid lip gloss gives one full and sumptuous lips,” says Jehani. Warm and pink tones should be used during the day while red and burgundy should be used in the evening.
“Pastels and more see-through colours such as rosy, pink, pink-blue and natural tan are best,” says Kochhar. Blusher will be soft, but you can add shimmer for that extra glow.
