If the buzz around town is to be believed, then producer Anil Kapoor isn’t very happy with the way his actors are supposedly washing their hands off the last-minute promotions for Short Kut – The Con Is On. So with Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi unavailable, Kapoor is flying back to town today to do the needful.
Reportedly, Khanna and Warsi haven’t been on talking terms ever since the promotional campaign for the movie, a desi version of the Hollywood hit, Bowfinger, began. So much so that when their meeting with the media was held a week ago at a suburban club, they chose to keep a safe distance from each other.. they were on different floors.
And now that Khanna has gone to South Africa for the shooting of Kapoor’s next, No Problem, helmed by Anees Bazmee, Warsi isn’t showing much interest in the publicity of Short Kut.
Differences of opinion?
According to an insider, Warsi is believed to have expressed unhappiness with Khanna’s disappearance from the city just before the release of the movie. “Warsi feels that if Akshaye is not around to promote Short Kut, why should he do it alone? So he’s not sparing any more time for it and has gone back to his other films,” reveals our source.
He further adds, “So, Anil has requested the producers and director of 24, the television series he’s shooting for in Los Angeles, to grant him four days off for the release of his film.”
Kapoor confirmed about his break from 24 via a text message saying, “Short Kut is releasing this Friday. And with my lead cast busy, I want to be there for my director and the whole crew. So I have requested my 24 series producer to give me a break of four days so that I am in Mumbai for the release.”
Director Neeraj Vora sounded reluctant to divulge any details about differences between his lead actors, but confirmed his producer’s arrival. “Yes, I’m happy that Anilji is planning to be here for the release. Akshaye is out of the country but Arshad is working on his schedule to give us more dates for further promotion.”
