The Gauhati High Court was today informed by the central and state governments that the whereabouts of wife and children of arrested NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary, who was recently handed over by Bangladesh to India, was not known.
The response from the governments came after the court directed them to provide information about the whereabouts of wife and children of Daimary after a writ petition was filed by Ranjan's sister Anjali Daimary.
The counsel, appearing for the governments, told the division bench comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice B P Katakey that the wife and children of Daimary have not been handed over to them along with him by the Bangladesh Rifles on May One and therefore their whereabouts were now known to the authorities.
The court subsequently closed the habeas corpus petition after hearing all the parties.
Daimary is currently in police custody.
