Practically any fashion bible will tell you that a crisp white shirt is a wardrobe classic. And that’s not the only way to wear this summery shade. Actress Marilyn Monroe posed over an open grate and proved that a simple white dress could run circles around the little black dress.

Models and actors use white eye-liner to hide a late night. White nail polish, is favoured for its clean look.Varsha Bhavnani, who has styled stars like Asin and Priyanks Chopra, admits to stocking up on a lot of whites this season at her store, Vinegar.

“It’s the first colour you relate to summer,” she insists, “Also internationally, white is being used on chikankari, lace and hakoba (eyelet) fabrics. Another advantage is that white really stands out on Indian skin tones. Pastels may be summery, but white really helps you stand out in a crowd.”

Bhavnani advises dusky dames like actress Chopra to stick to the brighter shades of the colour like milk white; while very fair women should wear shades like ecru and ivory. “If you’re very fair, wearing a pure white will make you look washed out. You need to also dress up your faces with make-up to add colour to the outfit.”
