Two years after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President George W Bush inked thehistoric nuclear agreement that had heralded an era in which India's N-isolation would be a thing of the past, the UPA Govt finds itself in a bind, and is facing the worst-ever crisis after it came to power in 2004. While a majority of Indians don't seem to suspect Singh's nationalistic intentions, the Left parties have put his Govt on the mat over the issue.

The UPA allies have rallied behind Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and coalition chairperson Sonia Gandhi after the CPM mooted a mechanism to discuss the implications of the Hyde Act that is at the root of the Left's rejection of the Indo-US nuclear agreement.

Before this deal really goes through, there are many issues that need to be resolved: IAEA safeguards, NSG clearance and so on. But before Manmohan goes whole hog about allaying NSG's fears on proliferation, he has to put his own house in order, what with snap poll staring the Govt in the face, courtesy Left and an overzealous Opposition.
