Taking serious note of the involvement of cops in the crime, Director General of Police (DGP) Bua Singh has asked Inspector General, Lucknow Zone, AK Gupta to work out the case on a priority basis.  In turn, the IG has asked SSP GK Goswami to verify the antecedents of all crime branch and SOG members. The SSP has also been asked to identify the tainted policemen posted at different police stations in the state capital and send a report to him.

Meanwhile, unable to cope with the pressure mounted by senior cops, one of the S-Is Brijraj Yadav surrendered before late on Sunday night. Following a tip-off by Yadav, a police team from Lucknow crime branch reached Gorakhpur on Monday and picked up two of his accomplices Subhash Yadav and Neeraj. The duo are property dealers in Gorakhpur.  The S-I had claimed that one kg gold was kept with Neeraj. However, the police could not find the booty.

The S-I further said he had joined Gorakhpur Police Lines soon after he got himself relieved from the CM’s residence security on September 20. The loot incident had taken place on September 19.  On the other hand, the police team camping in Bahraich recovered two kgs of gold from the residence of another S-I Santosh Singh’s kin Ajit Singh alias Babloo. Ajit is a block pramukh of Hariharpur block. Earlier the cops recovered one kg gold and service pistols of SOG constables Sushil Pachauri and Alok Singh on Sunday night from Ajit’s house.
