In the past, Akshay Kumar has often been accused of undercutting his co-stars or taking away their credit from right under their noses. But for De Dana Dan, he ensured that everyone got a fair deal and billing. So much so, that it’s believed that he suggested that his name be the first one to be removed from the theatrical promos of the Priyadarshan-directed film that was played in the cinemas on Friday.
A source associated with the film says they couldn’t list all the actors in the two-minute trailer and Akshay felt it was unfair to the character actors if their names didn’t figure in the credits. “The film has a long list of actors and it was impossible to fit in all of them in the promo. So Akshay called a meeting of the entire cast at producer Ratan Jain’s office to discuss the issue,” says our source.
Apparently, Jain and Priyadarshan were keen on following the set format of figuring only the top cast in the promo, but Akshay stressed on the fact that it was unfair to leave out other actors who had worked equally hard in the film.
Our source informs us: “Akshay suggested that none of the actors’ names would figure in the promo. There would be a mention of only the producer and director. Eventually they agreed.”
Jain confirmed the story. “Akshay spoke to everyone in the team. It was impossible to include everyone’s name in the trailer. So we went ahead with his idea,” he asserted. Interestingly, Akshay Kumar is also said to be the co-producer of the film.
