Why cops turn a blind eye to tehbazari

india Updated: Jun 21, 2006 00:09 IST

WAS LUCRATIVE tehbazari contract of Bara Birwa vegetable market behind sensational triple murder in Krishnanagar on Friday?

Significantly, the crime was executed right outside the same market at Bara Birwa. Do the cops know this, or are just ignoring the same for obvious reasons?
The cops were caught in a catch-22 situation as the victims were close to the most influential cabinet rank minister and the prime suspects have blessings of another stalwart minister in the government.

The cops were hunting anxiously for the possible motive behind the fatal attack on Suresh Yadav and Sushil Yadav when they came to know about the tehbazari contract of Bara Birwa vegetable market. The contract was allotted to Thakur Prasad Yadav second consecutive time merely four days back. Yadav had snatched the contract from the group of a former Lucknow University Student Union president-turned minister’s cohort (Block Pramukh) and slain don Ajit Singh’s confidante last year.

A Samajwadi Party leader, who belongs to Etawah and is close to the most influential cabinet rank minister had helped Yadav in procuring the contract worth Rs 15 lakhs last year and this year both. The rival group though somehow had ignored the loss last year they could not bear the consecutive jolt this year.

The tehbazari contract was allotted from the Lucknow Development Authority. Thakur Prasad Yadav and his rival group both had applied their efforts to procure the job and finally the high profile cabinet rank minister issued directives to concerned top LDA official to allot the contract in Yadav’s name this year too.

Sources revealed that the rival group was annoyed over the open challenge thrown by the person like Thakur Prasad who is known as a low profile businessman in the area. The group chose Bara Birwa as the place of executing the shootout in a sensational way just to teach a lesson to Thakur Prasad.

Another fact, which strengthens the theory, is profession of one of the prime suspects who is close to student leader-turned minister. This goon also runs a business of seizing vehicles from defaulters of private banks. He was also engaged in providing vehicles to his acquaintances against loan using his clout.

Significantly, the motorcycle left by the shooters at the spot too was purchased on loan against fake documents and details. This suspect and the confidante of slain Ajit Singh, both had strong network in the areas like Charbagh, Husainganj, Ashiana, Krishnanagar and Sarojininagar. The suspect, who deals in vehicle recovery contract, had orchestrated killing of one of his partners a few years back in Ashiana.
