Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kites is back in the news, but this time, it’s got nothing to do with rumours of a link-up between Hrithik and actress Barbara Mori. It’s actress Kangna Ranaut’s role in the film that’s in the spotlight.
Producer Rakesh Roshan has backtracked on an earlier statement where he had said, “Kangna Ranaut has an important role in Kites and will be a part of the film’s promotions.”
Now, he says, “Kites is the love story of Hrithik and Barbara. Kangna only has a special appearance.” Reports that Kangna was sidelined surfaced when the Kites team travelled to the Cannes Film Festival without her.
Kangna said she couldn’t go because she was shooting for her Telugu flick in Hyderabad, though Roshan clearly stated that “she was not asked to come”.
That’s not all. There is no mention of Kangna in the film’s synopsis on its website. It is rumoured that she herself got her name pulled out of the credits and asked for a ‘special appearance’ credit.
Sources say it was initially a full-fledged role. “Kangna wouldn’t play second fiddle to anyone. The film has gone through a lot of changes,” said a source.
