Wipro, Motorola tie up for telecom outsourcing

india Updated: Jul 25, 2006 22:56 IST

Wipro Technologies and global telecom major Motorola have formed a joint venture to provide telecom services to public and private network customers.

According to a Wipro statement in Bangalore on Tuesday, the joint venture, named WMNetServ, will deliver telecom services to enable customers focus on their core business and gain access to capabilities not available internally.

"WMNetServ is a strategic move for both companies to invest in services and offer new opportunities to meet the changing needs of customers. Motorola's managed services help customers reduce costs by taking advantage of its capabilities in out-tasking, build-operate-transfer, and total outsourcing," the statement said.

By combining Motorola's portfolio with Wipro's resources and expertise, the joint venture will deliver and manage services in planning, deployment, optimisation, security, operations and support, it said.

"Wipro has a proven track record in delivering managed services and complements our expertise in mobility. Our combined strength will give the joint venture a competitive edge in managed services," said Motorola vice-president Srikanth Kannankote.

"Customers will have a dependable and long-term partner that is backed by two global firms to outsource and manage their network operations," Wipro chief operating officer AL Rao said.

The joint venture will host a global network operation centre platform in India to integrate seamlessly with Motorola's network operating centres in North America and Europe to provide 24/7 network monitoring capabilities to customers.
