The woman came to the Hinjewadi police station at midnight and narrated the incident. Police immediately swung into action, took her to the hospital while another team proceeded to nearby Maan village to nab the suspects. Two people were picked up from their houses in the morning.
The incident has sent shockwaves since there are several IT companies in Rajiv Gandhi Information Technology Park and several women employees work in odd hours.
In last October, Nayna Pujari, a software engineer, was raped and murdered. A security guard, a cab driver and three others were arrested in the Pujari murder case. Her body was found at Rajgurunagar, 60 kms away from Pune.
The city has in the past witnessed increasing number of crimes against women working in this field after the boom in Information Technology as well as call center business.
In August, 2009, software firm employee Shraddha Chhajed was murdered by her colleague and on November 3, 2007, Jyotikumari Chowdhary, a 22-year-old employee of Wipro call center, was raped and murdered by the firm’s driver and his friend, near Gahuinje village off Mumbai-Pune expressway.
After the incidents, IT companies have made the presence of a security guard mandatory in the cabs.
