A woman has been killed allegedly by a relative who branded her as a 'witch' in Bokaro's Chandrapura and was arrested hours later, the police said in Bokaro on Thursday.

Qureshi Khatun was at home yesterday when her relative, Mohammad Shakeel, came with a sharp weapon and slit her throat, Chandrapura police station in-charge Ramji Mahato, told newsmen here.

Shakeel has been arrested immediately after the crime, he added.

The police officer said Shakeel's child recently died of illness and he believed the illness was caused by Khatun's witchcraft.

This was the second such incident in Jharkhand. On March 9, a woman was killed in Simdega allegedly on the same belief.
